Position Summary HII Mission Technologies is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team in support of the U.S. Navy Surface Training Program (STP). In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, and production of Shore-Based Training, Engineering & Development Support (SBEDS) Part Task Trainer (PTT) systems. This role requires on site work in Huntsville, AL and cannot be done remotely.

What you will do

Research and analyze mechanical systems to support the design and functionality of Part Task Trainer components.

Provide hardware systems engineering support of training system evolution and integration, including the design, integration, implementation, and maintenance of training, engineering, and developmental test equipment suites.

Design and develop mechanical assemblies, tools, and devices integral to PTT systems using industry best practices.

Manufacture and test mechanical components to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and Navy training requirements.

Work on power-producing and power-using systems relevant to PTT environments, including motors, actuators, and thermal management systems.

Develop and integrate mechanical solutions for material handling, structural support, and motion systems within trainer platforms.

Create specialized tools and fixtures to assist in assembly, testing, and maintenance of PTT systems.

Perform design validation and optimization through computational analysis and simulation to ensure reliability and performance.

Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to translate training requirements into mechanical solutions for Navy systems.

Find and understand data sheets, interpret their limitations, and use them to create cutouts, brackets, and other metal work, including 3D models for subassemblies and assemblies or 3D printing.

Minimum Qualifications

9 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or 7 years experience with a Master’s degree; or 4 years experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field.

Experience with Autodesk Inventor to create sheet metal parts, 3D printed models, and parts from data sheets.

Experience creating presentations for exploded views and assembly drawings, including flat patterns, detailed views, and callouts.

Previous CAD experience.

Experience supporting projects and users, including cable fabrication, hardware installation and relocation, preventive and corrective maintenance, fault isolation, and repair, with documentation.

Preferred Requirements

Knowledge of various hardware and fasteners (bolts, machine screws, Allen head screws, washers, nuts, etc.) and when to use them.

Ability to recognize when drawings require updates, correcting errors, improving the product, and adding or simplifying build steps.

Proficiency with functional configuration audits (FCAs) and physical configuration audits (PCAs) for platforms.

Experience with model-based engineering (MBSE).

Physical Requirements

Office, industrial, or shipboard environment; capable of climbing ladders, tolerating confined spaces, and extreme temperature variations. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for a one‑man lift.
