FSS Art Director - Position Description The Full Spectrum Studio (FSS) is seeking a permanent part time person to serve as Art Director at our progressive art studio on Hilton Head Island SC. Our studio hosts a cadre of permanent artists (currently 8) with disabilities who regularly participate in studio work and art shows. Our studio is located at 33 Bow Circle, HHI, and is a 501c3 organization.

As a progressive art studio we are dedicated to supporting artists with physical and mental health conditions and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities, either visible or invisible, as they seek to build and sustain careers in the arts. Our artists are all enthusiastic about art and learning. Your job will be to bring your artistic and creative expertise to their energy and work with them to identify their strengths. From their strengths you will help them create artwork worthy of juried art shows and curated collections. You will provide guidance, and support while professionally guiding them through the creative and critique process.

Compensation for this position is hourly and can include studio time.

The FSS space encompasses 3000 sq ft of pottery, painting, glass, and textiles work space. The studio has a pottery kiln, two glass kilns, four looms, a slab roller, a pottery wheel, pug mill, and full painting area.

The Art Director brings curatorial and creative expertise in one or more art mediums. The Art Director works seamlessly with the studio manager who addresses daily experiences at the studio, materials procurement, proper safety protocols, and comprehensive creative self expression. Studio materials, equipment, cleanliness, and security are the responsibility of all participants.

The artists of the FSS work on pieces for submission to the Art League of Hilton Head, local markets and juried competitions, all activities the Art Director is expected to help shepherd to completion.

Required Criteria

Proven art background and portfolio of work - any medium (painting, pottery, glass, textiles, printmaking, sculpture, etc.)

Experience in professional art activities, markets, shows, juried shows, etc.

Have successful experience with the community of people with disabilities - either personally or professionally

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written

Desired Criteria

Experience in other mediums

Experience teaching adults with disabilities

Management experience
