Position Summary The Cafeteria Manager supports the successful operation of campus dining and retail food service locations by overseeing daily operations, supervising staff, and ensuring a positive dining experience for students, faculty, staff, and guests. This role works closely with campus partners and Great Western Dining leadership to maintain service excellence, financial accountability, and compliance with campus standards.
Essential Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of assigned campus dining and retail food service areas
Supervise, schedule, assign duties to, and evaluate the performance of dining staff
Train, coach, and onboard team members with an emphasis on service, safety, and hospitality
Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and student-focused dining environment
Serve as a primary point of communication between frontline staff and Great Western Dining leadership
Ensure operational productivity, resolve service issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives
Perform cash handling and reconciliation for residence hall and retail dining operations
Accurately enter and maintain accounts payable data
Maintain NutriSlice menu labels and ensure compliance with nutrition transparency requirements
Assist with inventory counts, data entry, and inventory control processes
Support purchasing and ordering processes for retail food, coffee café items, and paper supplies
Ensure retail operations are fully staffed and operated in accordance with university and company specifications
Assist with staffing coverage as needed to maintain service standards and uninterrupted meal service
Support opening and closing procedures and ensure compliance with established operating protocols
Skills and Qualifications
Dependable, reliable, and committed to consistent attendance
Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, students, and campus partners
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, student-centered dining environment
Strong basic math, reading, and computer skills
Prior supervisory or lead experience in food service or hospitality preferred
Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance standards
Preferred Experience
Experience in college, university, or contract food service operations
Familiarity with campus dining systems, retail operations, or residence hall dining
Work Environment
Active campus dining environment requiring flexibility in scheduling, including evenings or weekends as needed
Requires standing for extended periods and use of manual and electric food service equipment
Physical Requirements
Continuous walking and other means of mobility up to 8 hours a day
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push/pull and frequently lift/move up to 30 pounds
