Senior Construction Observer
Summary : Provides on-site oversight and quality control for construction projects, ensuring work aligns with plans, specifications, and regulations. They monitor contractor performance, conduct inspections, and maintain detailed records. This role often involves communication with various stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and owners.
Conducting on-site inspections: Senior construction observers regularly visit construction sites to assess the progress and quality of work.
Ensuring adherence to plans and specifications: They verify that all construction activities are in accordance with the approved designs, drawings, and contract documents.
Monitoring construction practices: They observe and evaluate construction methods, materials, and workmanship to ensure they meet the required standards.
Identifying and reporting issues: They detect any deviations from the plans, specifications, or safety regulations and report them to the appropriate parties.
You’ll Be Hands-On With:
Sewer, storm drain, and waterline installations
Roadway and ADA ramp construction - Caltrans experience preferred
Concrete foundations, manholes, hydrants, and more
Landscape, irrigation, signals, striping, and street lighting
Pump stations, treatment plants, and trench utilities
You’ll also participate in bid reviews, interface with city officials, and attend project meetings—all while ensuring top-tier execution in the field.
EDUCATION
Coursework in civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, or related field, with Bachelors/Master’s Degree preferred, but not required
Familiarity with appropriate national and local construction standards, practices, and requirements, specific emphasis on Caltrans standards knowledge
EXPERIENCE
10+ years experience
of diverse construction or construction inspection experience required
Familiarity with Caltrans requirements or experience with Caltrans projects highly desired
Demonstrated construction inspection or observation skills including writing reports, construction administration, safety standards, and meeting budgets and schedules
Proven success in collaborating and communicating cross multiple offices, clients, agencies, with other key stakeholders

Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $35.00 - $50.00 Per Hour
