In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, assembling, and maintaining plastic injection molds used in the production of high-quality, high-volume plastic parts. Key Responsibilities
Mold Construction: Build, assemble, and plastic injection molds, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications.
Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to fabricate molds and components.
Precision Machining: Use precision equipment such as CNC machines, lathes, grinders, and EDM to shape mold components to exact specifications.
Mold Repair and Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on molds to ensure continued high-performance functionality and longevity.
Testing and Troubleshooting: Conduct tests on molds to check for defects and make adjustments as necessary. Troubleshoot mold-related issues during the manufacturing process.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, production, and quality control teams to ensure molds are built to specifications and meet production deadlines.
Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, following all safety protocols and maintaining equipment.
Documentation: Keep accurate records of mold designs, repairs, and maintenance for future reference.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on new mold-building techniques, tools, and technologies to continually improve efficiency and mold quality.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or apprenticeship in mold building, machining, or a related field preferred.
Must be knowledgeable with using precise measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, play-checks, height gauges, etc.
3+ years of experience in plastic injection mold building or a similar manufacturing environment.
Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD software.
Experience with CNC machining, lathes, mills, EDM, and other precision tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to lift heavy materials and work in a physically demanding environment.
Preferred Skills
Experience with mold design software (such as Cimatron, SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar).
Familiar with plastic materials and injection molding processes.
Experience in troubleshooting complex molding issues and optimizing designs.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, sit, and work with hands for long periods.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a workshop environment with various machinery and tools.
