Job Description
SVS Group currently has a full-time temp/hire opportunity for a Utility Worker in the Chemical manufacturing industry. Monday - Friday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm plus overtime as needed.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Utility Worker is a member of the Operations team for our chemical blending and polyol manufacturing unit who assists in the continuous operations of the production team. The position is responsible for providing material handling support for production personnel as well as work with our supply chain teams on handling materials in a safe and orderly manner. The Utility Worker must also support and advocate core values: Safety First, Passion for Growth, Commitment to Excellence, Display Professionalism & Integrity, Deliver Solutions, and Teamwork. The Utility Worker is a valuable member of the operations team and reports to the Production Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain a “safety first” attitude at all times. Maintain safe working habits by following established OSHA and company safety practices and policies (IE: Proper PPE practices, Housekeeping, Incident Reporting and Prevention).
Handle materials in a safe and orderly manner.
Assist with the timely fulfillment and delivery of products from the chemical blending and polyol manufacturing unit.
Load and unload material and chemicals from loading docks, delivery trucks, storage areas, and production areas.
Package and palletize various buckets, pails, drums, and totes of chemicals for storage and shipment.
Maintain accurate chemical inventory by reviewing work orders, selecting/picking raw materials from stock, using the correct quantity, labeling containers, and restocking containers when done.
Maintain a clean, organized work space by performing routine housekeeping and 5S activities.
Operate various machinery including booms, telehandlers, and forklifts to handle materials and inventory.
Participate in teams to drive change in regard to safety, quality, production, continuous improvement, and improved employee relations.
Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor at all times.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education and/or experience equivalent to a High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Effective written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with multiple departments across the organization.
Must possess a valid driver’s license or the ability to possess one.
Experience working in a chemical manufacturing or chemical blending environment preferred but not required.
Experience working in an ISO 9001, Lean, Total Quality Management/Continuous Improvement environment is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of production processes utilizing hazardous materials and requisite safety considerations.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, work in confined spaces; often for long periods at a time and often outside through weather typical during all seasons in Mesa, Arizona.
The Employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or touch, and reach with hands and arms as well as raise arms above shoulder height and climb up and down stairs.
The Employee is required to be able to operate a forklift safely and with precision.
The Employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment such as Safety glasses and goggles, gloves, face shields, aprons, spats, Tyvek suit, and steel toe shoes.
Comfortable handling hazardous materials with company provided PPE.
Must be able to pass a Respirator Medical Evaluation and wear a respirator for extended periods of time.
Physically fit with the ability to consistently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Ability to work extended hours on multiple shifts based on production needs.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
