A professional multi‑skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical processes. Assisting clinicians with patient care by controlling in‑basket task management, responsible for first‑level monitoring, triaging, and evaluation of all messages within the centralized in‑baskets. Completing and documenting all messaging within the scope of a certified MA; routing all others to appropriate team members as needed based on department or practice protocols.
Responsibilities
Responsible for managing, screening and triaging all in‑basket messages utilizing standing orders and triage protocols.
Performing all above while maintaining patient privacy, confidentiality, safety and adhering to ethical, legal, and accrediting/regulatory standards at all times.
Reviewing in‑basket tasks and pending lab orders, referrals, and medications as appropriate for completion of tasks based on department and practice guidelines.
Monitoring and responding to all in‑basket tasks to ensure completion within organizational standards; ensuring timely processing and follow‑up of in‑basket messages within set guidelines.
Obtaining appropriate input and direction from provider as needed to determine best clinical course of action for specific in‑basket tasks; routing tasks appropriately to the APP II Clinical In‑Basket Panel Manager and/or RN In‑Basket Triage Nurse as needed.
Scheduling follow‑up visits according to follow‑up plan and based on necessity and acuity, offering the earliest appointment available.
Screening and responding to patient phone calls and MyChart messages as directed by protocol; accurately documenting each encounter in the EMR and providing appropriate follow‑up as necessary.
Correctly documenting all entries in the medical record, either electronically or hard copy, including signature, date, and time.
Participating in performance‑improvement projects and active care team coordination of patient care; providing a standard of excellence in customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers.
Communicating with all stakeholders, staff, providers, and patients as appropriate and per protocols.
Qualifications
Education: 2 years – Medical Assistant (Preferred); High School Diploma or GED equivalent (Required).
Certifications: Bachelor’s degree (Preferred); Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (Required at Time of Hire); Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required at Time of Hire); Medical Terminology Certificate (Preferred).
Completed an MA program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board.
Additional duties as assigned may vary.
