Golf Course Maintenance Assistant

This position will assist with the maintenance and repair of the golf course and relative equipment by performing various manual tasks including but not limited to mowing grass, emptying trash cans, changing lightbulbs, and other related tasks.

Essential job functions include:

  • Providing internal and external customer service
  • Working in the maintenance and repair of the golf course, equipment, buildings, and grounds; performing associated paperwork
  • Handling equipment in a safe and appropriate manner; using safety equipment when appropriate
  • Coordinating work tasks with other golf course and pro shop staff
  • Driving City vehicles

Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of related experience
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Current and valid Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driver's abstract in order to meet criteria for insurability established by the City of Gahanna

Important job functions:

  • The worker may be called to work 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
  • The worker may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, equipment, tools, and materials used in parks maintenance and construction
  • Landscaping and horticulture as applied to golf course and grounds areas
  • Necessary precautions involved in the use of tools and landscaping equipment
  • Skill in applying problem-solving skills and performing critical thinking
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates
  • Ability to work independently and under direct supervision
  • Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions
  • Ability to read and write numbers and letters
  • Ability to speak and write effectively both orally and in written form
  • Ability to hear to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surrounding and activities
  • Perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions
  • Exert 100 pounds of force occasionally; up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  • Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions

  • The employee is subject to inside and outside environment conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions
