The Excavation Support person is a laborer who performs a variety of manual tasks outdoors in all weather conditions; including digging, laying conduit, helping with machinery, etc. This is all done while working in a safe and effective manner.

Deeply Digital's outside plant focuses primarily on placing underground and aerial fiber for telecommunications. Its services include line, coaxial, and optical fiber cable placement, splicing, and home installation.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Fiber Optic Splicer to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic FTTH-FTTP networks for both underground and aerial installations, using both centralized and distributive split. This individual will serve as a technical expert, ensuring all fiber construction and maintenance projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance. Technician will also be utilized in outage and after-hours events.

As a senior-level technician, you will lead field teams, oversee complex network builds, perform advanced testing (OTDR, power meter, light source), and ensure compliance with all industry standards and project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Perform fusion and mechanical splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables. Lead and train field crews on best practices, safety procedures, and splicing techniques. Conduct fiber characterization, OTDR, and power meter testing to verify network integrity. Interpret and work from fiber network schematics, splice diagrams, and construction blueprints. Troubleshoot and repair damaged fiber, identifying and resolving signal loss or performance issues. Document all splicing and testing activities accurately using company-approved software and tools. Maintain detailed records of fiber routes, splice enclosures, and test results for as-built documentation. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure successful project delivery. Manage equipment, tools, and materials, ensuring readiness and proper maintenance. Adhere to OSHA, ANSI, and company safety standards in all work environments. Qualifications

Required:

Must have at least 1 year of Fiber Splicing experience. Expert-level proficiency with fusion splicers (e.g., Fujikura, Sumitomo, AFL). Strong understanding of fiber optic theory, color codes, and industry standards (TIA/EIA, IEEE). Proficiency using OTDR, power meter/light source, and fiber identifier tools. Ability to read and interpret complex network maps and splice documentation. Valid driver's license and clean driving record. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work independently. Preferred:

Certifications such as FOA CFOT, ETA Fiber Optic Installer (FOI), or similar. Experience leading teams or supervising field operations. Knowledge of FTTx, DWDM, and transport network architecture. Experience with GIS-based documentation and construction management platforms. Working Conditions

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, sometimes in adverse weather. Requires travel to multiple job sites, occasionally including overnight stays. Ability to lift 50 lbs and work from aerial lifts, ladders, or confined spaces as needed.

The pay range for this role is:

30 - 35 USD per hour (Grand Junction, Colorado)
