General Summary
The Mortgage Loan Processing team plays a critical role in supporting the mortgage lending process by ensuring loan files are complete, accurate, and ready for underwriting and closing. The
Loan Processor - Level 2
is an experienced mortgage professional responsible for managing more complex loan files and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and investor requirements. This role goes beyond foundational processing tasks by handling multiple loan types, resolving escalated issues, and serving as a resource for Level 1 processors. Level 2 processors demonstrate advanced knowledge of mortgage programs, underwriting guidelines, and operational workflows, contributing to process improvements and exceptional customer experiences.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties Independently manages a pipeline of conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans. Processes other complex loan types with Mortgage Processing Manager support as needed. Reviews and validates borrower documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program requirements. Identifies and resolves discrepancies or issues prior to underwriting submission. Serves as the primary point of contact for escalated borrower or partner inquiries. Troubleshoots and resolves complex documentation or compliance challenges. Acts as a resource for Level 1 processors, providing guidance and support on procedures and best practices. Assists in onboarding and training new processing team members. Conducts thorough pre-underwriting audits to ensure files meet investor and regulatory standards. Partners with internal compliance teams to address audit findings and implements corrective actions. Delivers proactive updates to borrowers and referral partners, ensuring transparency and timely progress. Maintains strong relationships with Loan Originators, Underwriters, Closers, and third-party vendors. Identifies opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency within the processing function. Participates in departmental projects and initiatives aimed at improving operational performance. Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc. Supports and participates in community activities and initiatives. Other duties necessary to meet business objectives. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma required; associate degree in business or related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of mortgage processing experience, including exposure to multiple loan programs. Advanced understanding of mortgage regulations, investor guidelines, and compliance requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to resolve complex issues. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, as well as in Encompass and other mortgage technology platforms. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to mentor and support junior team members. Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities. Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving technological environment.
