Job Description

Under the mission of the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), The Division of Property Taxation, and under the supervision of higher-level Property Tax Specialists, the position actively participates in the development of policy manuals, reappraisal programs, technical assistance/consulting, and producing appraisal curricula and training for county assessors and their staffs. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and adequacy of professional judgment. Work is performed with some independence, but is subject to review by higher-level Property Tax Specialists for compliance with general instructions and policies, for adequacy, and soundness of conclusions. This position functions as one of the ad valorem valuation specialists in the Division.

Class Code & Classification Description: H8J2XX Property Tax Specialist I

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years total experience conducting real estate appraisals or as an employee of a county assessor's office.
  • OR at least one (1) year conducting real estate appraisals or working in a county assessor's office AND teaching, training or formal presentation experience totaling five (5) years.
  • OR a combination of related education in accounting, finance, business management, public administration, real estate or a closely related field (as determined by the agency) AND experience as described above equal to five years.
  • Special Qualifications: Applicants must possess or be working toward a current and valid real estate appraisal license, issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, at the time of application to be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a county assessor's office with real property classification and/or valuation of fee appraisal experience.
  • Experience in presenting to a group, providing training or workshops, or public speaking.

Conditions of Employment:

  • You MUST be a Colorado resident (at the time of application) to apply for this position.

  • Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States to be appointed to this position.
  • MUST have a valid, unrestricted Colorado drivers license with a safe driving record.

Biweekly Pay: As of July 1, 2023, all DOLA new hires, including transfers of current state employees and reinstatements of former state employees, will be placed on the biweekly pay schedule. This means you will be paid every other Friday for a total of 26 pay periods over the course of a year. Appeal Rights: An applicant who has been removed from an employment list or removed from consideration during the selection process may request a review by the State Personnel Director. As an applicant directly affected by the results of the selection or comparative analysis process, you may file a written appeal with the State Personnel Director. Review of the completed, signed and submitted appeal will be timely on the basis of written material submitted by you, using the official appeal form signed by you or your representative. This form must be completed and delivered to the State Personnel Board by email at dpa_state.personnelboard@state.co.us within ten (10) calendar days from your receipt of notice or acknowledgment of the Department's action.
