Position Summary Temporary Tax Preparer, Tax Help Colorado

is a non-exempt part-time temporary position scheduled to work 20 hours per week for 12 weeks starting January 20th. This role supports low- and middle-income Colorado families by filing accurate tax returns and ensuring they receive every deduction and credit they are owed.

Salary Hourly pay is $22.57 per hour. This rate is set in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Hourly pay is $22.75 per hour.

How You'll Help Tax Help Colorado operates the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). The tax preparer plays an integral role in implementing the program, operating free tax preparation sites, and providing excellent customer service to build a trustworthy environment for clients.

Essential Responsibilities

Complete required training and IRS certifications.

Ensure accurate tax preparation and quality review of tax returns.

Provide administrative support at tax preparation sites in the community.

Follow VITA quality site requirements.

Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and accurate service delivery.

Provide exceptional customer service.

Build relationships and work effectively with donors, volunteers, clients, and community partners.

What You'll Need

Excellent communication and client service skills, including attentive listening and calmness under pressure.

Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Demonstrated passion for helping low-income individuals and families meet their needs and build assets.

Strong organizational skills, including time management and attention to detail.

Experience with concepts of trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, and community engagement.

Proficiency with Windows computers and web-based software applications.

Training And Certificate Requirements

All tax preparers must complete a short tax preparation course during onboarding.

Successful completion of all required certifications: Volunteer Standards of Conduct, Intake/Interview and Quality Review, Advanced Tax, Site Coordinator.

Working Environment 100% in-person at tax preparation sites throughout Metro Denver.

Physical Activities May be required to lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to provide personal transportation.
