FBT Gibbons LLP is inviting applications for the
Intellectual Property (Patent) Associate
role located in the Newark, New Jersey office. The firm is a national, full‑service law practice formed through a merger of Frost Brown Todd and Gibbons, with 800 attorneys across 25 offices. The office serves a wide range of clients from Fortune 500 companies to startups and nonprofits.
Location Newark, New Jersey – 25‑office firm
Qualifications
4+ years of patent experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech/life science field
Advanced degree in chemistry, biology, immunology, or biochemistry or substantial R&D experience is preferred; a bachelor’s degree with additional experience as a practicing patent attorney is also considered
Experience as an in‑house lawyer in small molecule chemistry is a plus
Demonstrated experience in drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical patent applications globally, as well as in conducting freedom‑to‑operate and patent invalidity and non‑infringement analyses
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple time‑sensitive projects
Superior written and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with minimal supervision
Ability to distill complexity and to communicate decisively with sound judgment
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
Compensation The salary range for this role is $180,000 to $210,000 per year, reflecting a variety of factors including experience, training, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs. Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, relevant experience, and other job‑related factors, consistent with applicable employment laws.
Associates are also eligible for:
