The Sales Manager is responsible for implementing both short and long‑range sales, marketing and product development programs targeted towards existing and new markets.
Under the guidance of the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, the incumbent will achieve these objectives through forecasting, promotional planning, annual buying, retail merchandising and customer account management.
Key Duties, Skills and Abilities
Helps drive the company’s mission, vision, and values.
Sells products by implementing national sales plans and supervising brokers.
Assists VP‑S in maintaining sales volume, product mix, and pricing by monitoring supply, demand, trends, competitors, and economic indicators.
Establishes and adjusts selling prices by monitoring costs, competition and supply and demand.
Represents the company at community events, industry boards and meetings.
Provides strategic business development advice to VP‑S.
Ensures that sales/marketing capabilities meet or exceed industry and customer requirements for cost, quality, and responsiveness.
Supports senior‑level negotiations with vendors and customers.
Manages budgeting and budget execution with a focus on sales, profitability and margins.
Regularly meets with customers to discuss expectations.
Helps determine resource allocation among locations.
Sets performance goals for each broker.
Develops aggressive yet obtainable operational sales goals aligned to long‑term objectives.
Monitors location performance against goals and takes corrective action if necessary.
Drives BFF’s Environment Management System to reduce operational negative environmental effects and support pollution prevention.
Will travel approximately 25–30% of the time.
Education & Experience
5 to 7 years of sales experience in consumer‑packaged goods, preferably dairy and/or refrigerated food within high‑volume grocery sales.
Specialty egg market experience is a plus; Bachelor’s degree in business, food science or related field preferred (MBA is a plus).
Established relationships with grocery, packaging and supply‑chain contacts, including pricing and negotiation tactics.
Self‑starter and team player thriving in an entrepreneurial environment.
Experience in large or small high‑growth companies, ideally leading sales.
Strong business leadership experience with quantitative and analytical skills for cost management and sales enhancement.
Knowledge of food safety principles, GMP, HACCP and sanitation.
Strong analytical thinking, results orientation, planning and organizational skills.
Familiarity with Nielsen reports and Microsoft product suite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Insurability: reliable driving (frequent travel).
Proven experience developing a sustainable, robust sales force and long‑range planning models.
Experience managing teamwork, motivating, rewarding and recognizing performance.
Experience managing an in‑store merchandising organization.
Experience in broker management.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Must adapt to office environments, including cold, heat, and high noise levels.
Data entry while seated for more than one hour.
Ability to work in agricultural settings (indoors, outdoors, retail, office, warehouse, processing, and farm production areas) with varying temperature, odor, and atmosphere.
