Epicenter NYC is a community journalism organization based in Queens. We are seeking a contract Community Ambassador to support our outreach and engagement efforts. This person will connect directly with residents in priority neighborhoods, help identify community needs, and guide people toward available resources and supports. The role blends in‑person engagement, basic screening and assessment, and navigation assistance. Working independently but in coordination with Epicenter Foundation staff, the contractor helps strengthen community awareness, access to services, and overall well‑being.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement & Outreach: direct engagement with residents in communities of color and priority neighborhoods through 1:1 conversations, community events, interactive presentations, and in‑person outreach such as flyering and tabling.

Resource distribution and messaging dissemination to raise awareness of programs and services that promote well‑being, including health, job, workforce, financial empowerment resources and services such as free tax preparation.

Assist individuals in understanding available resources and help them take the next steps to access those supports, including providing information, locating services, and offering basic guidance on completing forms or making appointments.

Coordinate with Epicenter staff to align outreach with community needs and organizational goals.

Screening & Assessment Support: administer Epicenter‑provided screening tools, gather information across domains such as housing, food access, transportation, safety, financial stability, and document outcomes accurately, ensuring individuals understand next steps. Conduct assessments on a recurring or as‑needed basis.

Navigation & Resource Connection: offer information on available community programs, benefits, services, and supports; provide guidance or referrals to connect individuals with organizations that address identified needs; ensure individuals understand how to access recommended resources; coordinate with Epicenter staff or partners for successful follow‑through; assist with data entry, summaries, recaps, and basic reporting; participate in meetings, trainings, or briefings as requested; provide feedback to improve outreach; help secure culturally sensitive staff when necessary.

Pay Range $20–25 per hour, commensurate with experience.
