Lead Superintendent

to independently manage all field operations on a $5‑$50 M project. This position will be on the job site every day and will fill a key role on the project team.

Responsibilities

Direct day‑to‑day coordination of Gilbane’s trade contractors and their sub‑contractors to ensure high‑quality work that meets the approved project schedule.

Develop, document, and communicate the work plan regarding changes made in the field.

Maintain a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems.

Obtain or verify that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes.

Establish credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.

Act as primary safety representative in the field and enforce safety compliance with all trades.

Lead contractor meetings on a regular basis.

Maintain daily reports and documentation using software tools.

Create, manage, and update the project schedule; create and implement contingency plans when necessary.

Communicate schedule status, updates and changes to project team and trade contractors.

Plan, coordinate, and manage jobsite logistics.

Develop the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team, oversee the plan, and implement necessary changes.

Communicate with Site Services/Next 150 to order materials and schedule crew.

Train direct report Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen.

Review and support writing scopes of work and participate in buyout.

Assist in Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.

Lead stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre‑task plan reviews.

Assist in general requirements financial forecasting.

Collaborate closely with business development to ensure seamless integration with sales strategies, including performance metrics on assigned projects, pursuits, and client deliverables.

Train direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks.

Manage workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards.

Foster a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members.

Aid in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports.

May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.

7‑12 years of experience leading a component of work or whole project for a value of $30 M or larger on commercial/industrial construction projects in a superintendent role.

OSHA 30‑hour certification.

STS‑C certification.

First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed training.

Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong technical and communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills.

Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to collaborate on a daily basis with the project team.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of construction software tools, including logistics and scheduling software.

Construction‑document and drawing literacy, with knowledge of all phases of construction.

Experience and proficiency in most divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.

Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety plan.

Ability to create an environment where “safety first” is the culture and all tradespeople work with an incident‑ and injury‑free attitude.
