Junior Machinist

divh2Junior Machinist (At)/h2pWe are seeking a skilled and motivated Junior Machinist to join the fabrication team at NSWC Indian Head. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of hands-on experience operating CNC machines and water jets in a collaborative, fast-paced prototype shop environment. This individual must be able to interpret engineering drawings-including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT)-use basic metrology equipment, and work closely with engineers and fellow machinists to support rapid development and iteration./ph3Responsibilities/h3ulliSet up, operate, and maintain CNC machining centers, manual mills/lathes, and water jet cutting machines to produce prototype components./liliRead and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GDT specifications to ensure accurate part fabrication./liliUse basic metrology equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators) for in-process and final inspection of parts./liliCollaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve design and manufacturability issues during the prototyping process./liliPerform inspections to verify tolerances and ensure conformance to specifications./liliFollow established shop safety procedures, maintenance protocols, and material handling guidelines./liliMaintain accurate documentation of work performed and job status./liliKeep workstations clean and organized in a team-based shop environment./liliEnsure compliance with security protocols and quality standards in a government facility./li/ulh3Qualifications/h3ulliulliHigh school diploma or GED required; trade school or technical certification in machining preferred./lili2-3 years of experience in a machine shop setting, specifically with CNC machines and water jet cutting equipment./liliSolid understanding of engineering drawings and GDT principles./liliFamiliarity with basic metrology tools and inspection procedures./liliStrong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work./liliExcellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting./liliAbility to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required)./li/ul/liliPreferred Qualifications: ulliExperience in a DoD or government fabrication/prototyping environment./liliFamiliarity with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks CAM./liliUnderstanding of material properties and machining techniques for metals, plastics, and composites./li/ul/li/ulh3Work Environment
