divh2Position Purpose/h2pThe primary purpose of this position is to perform chemistry tasks at the Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL)./ph3Essential Duties And Responsibilities/h3p- Collects and analyzes data using gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (LCMS), and ion chromatography (IC)./pp- Performs troubleshooting, maintenance, and method development on GC, LCMS, and IC instrumentation./pp- Performs wet chemistry (dilutions, extractions, etc.)./pp- Collects and analyzes data using explosive trace detection (ETD) systems./pp- Performs microscopy measurements using stereomicroscope or polarized light microscope./pp- Composes and reviews technical reports and standard operating procedures./pp- Composes, reviews, and executes test plans./pp- Synthesizes homemade explosives./pp- Performs literature reviews./pp- Safely handles explosive and other hazardous materials./pp- Sources materials and submits purchase requests./pp- Other duties as assigned./ph3Required Knowledge, Skills
Abilities/h3p- Positive attitude./pp- Good working knowledge of trace analytical instrumentation (GC, LCMS, and IC)./pp- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills./pp- Good listening skills./pp- Good working skills of software and tools necessary for job functions including Microsoft Office suite./pp- Previous experience handling energetic material./pp- Previous experience with ETD systems./ph3Education/Experience/h3pIncumbent professional should have a minimum of a bachelors degree in chemistry./ph3Certificates And Licenses/h3pNone/ph3Clearance/h3pThe ability to obtain a Secret clearance and Department of Homeland Security suitability is required for this position./ph3Supervisory Responsibilities/h3pThe incumbent professional has little to no supervisory responsibilities./ph3Working Conditions/ Equipment/h3pThe incumbent professional is expected to work and/or be available during regular business hours. He/she should also generally be available via e-mail or phone during non-business hours as needed to address critical issues or emergencies.
