Under immediate supervision, repairs, modifies, overhauls or installs various types of equipment or systems according to layout plans, blueprints, or other drawings, sets up and operates portable machining tools or equipment./ppDuties
Responsibilities:/pulliReports directly to the Craft Foreman in the performance of his/her responsibilities./liliStrictly adheres to corporate, federal, state and local safety regulations prior to setting up or operating any machinery./liliInterprets blueprints or other specifications./liliEnsures that all Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and that all damaged PPE is discarded./liliStrictly adheres to safety, quality standards./liliMaintains good housekeeping practices; turning off machines when not in use, disposing of waste properly, sweeping the area, IAW NAVSEA Standard Items./liliEnsures all tools listed on the Required Tools List are available for use within two weeks of employment./liliEnsures that all requirements of the Epsilon Systems Mission Readiness Group Quality Assurance Manual are followed when invoked by QA Workbook, Work Package (WP), Work Instructions (WI) and/or other guidance given by management./liliFollows detailed repair procedures and instructions (e.g.; QA Workbooks, Work packages steps, RECs, CWPs, FWPs, TGIs etc.) required to complete the production operations./liliMakes standard shop computations relating to stresses, strength of materials, and centers of gravity./liliNotifies Foreman of any unsatisfactory condition(s) identified during the production operation (i.e.; repair, modification, etc.)./li/ulpInserts shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts./pulliAligns machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs./liliAssembles and installs equipment, using hand tools and power tools./liliLays out mounting holes, using measuring instruments, and drill holes with power drill./liliAssists/signals crane operator to lower and position basic assembly units to bedplates of machines and equipment, and align unit to centerline./liliReplaces defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts./liliLevels bedplate and establishes centerline, using straightedge, levels, and transit./liliDismantles machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools./liliAttaches moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools./liliMoves machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks./liliPerforms as Team Member, cooperating with the efforts of other trades during an installation, modification or repair operations/li/ululliOther duties as assigned./li/ulpRequired Qualifications:/pulliHigh school diploma/equivalent, Apprenticeship Diploma/additional vocational courses or technical school graduate; and/or military and/or civilian experience with marine mechanical systems in a repair department or shipyard./liliOne to three years related work experience./liliHas knowledge of the trade qualifications and performs as an entry level Outside Machinist/liliMechanical aptitude and skills. Must be able to understand and perform the basic set up, alignment, and operation of various portable tools and hand tools used in the trade./liliHas working knowledge of shipboard mechanical systems (repair/installation practices, procedures, alignments and troubleshooting) and blue print reading./liliAbility to use such precision measuring instruments as height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, lay-out tools, tachometers, thermometers, vibration indicators/liliPossesses the ability to accurately record readings and measurements as well as complete documentation, repair, and testing of equipment.
