About the Company

MPS Acoustics designs and manufactures architectural acoustic solutions for commercial interiors. We’re growing our product development team and looking for a Product Designer who can take ideas from concept to physical reality using Rhino 3D software while working closely with design, engineering, and production to create products that look great and can actually be made.

This role is hands-on and development-focused: you’ll help shape new products, build samples, and ensure concepts translate into clean, repeatable manufacturing.

Role Description

You’ll support product creation from early concepts through prototypes and launch-ready designs, with a strong focus on buildability and manufacturability.

New Product & Line Development

  • Aid in new product development from concept exploration through ready-to-produce designs
  • Generate concepts, iterate quickly, and refine designs based on testing, feedback, and manufacturability
  • Help create repeatable product “systems” (modules, patterns, sizes, hardware approaches)

Custom Samples & Prototyping

  • Lead custom sample development for sales requests, customer mockups, and internal evaluation
  • Create prototypes and sample sets that communicate intent clearly and can be reproduced reliably
  • Document sample builds (materials, cut files, assembly notes, revisions) so they can be repeated

Production Feasibility & Manufacturing Alignment

  • Evaluate production feasibility early (materials, tolerances, assembly time, yield, finish, packaging, shipping constraints)
  • Partner with manufacturing to break designs into practical parts and assemblies
  • Support creation of fabrication-ready outputs (panelization, cut-ready geometry, assembly breakdowns)

Design Tools & Model Building

  • Develop and maintain 3D models and templates for product families and custom variations.
  • Use parametric or rules-based approaches when helpful to speed iteration and reduce errors

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with product leadership, engineering, operations, and the shop team
  • Support sales/design teams by translating customer intent into practical product solutions
  • Communicate clearly across functions and keep projects moving

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in product design, industrial design, architectural products, fabrication design, or a similar hands-on development role
  • Strong 3D modeling skills (Rhino + Grasshopper preferred)
  • Experience creating prototypes/samples and iterating based on real-world constraints
  • Practical understanding of manufacturing realities: materials, tolerances, assemblies, and finishing
  • Clear communication and the ability to document designs so others can build them
  • Basic scripting (Python) or strong parametric thinking is a plus

Work Environment

  • Fast-moving, custom-and-standard product mix
  • Direct collaboration with the shop and production team
  • A role for someone who enjoys building, testing, improving, and shipping real products
