Position Summary The Security Systems Designer provides design and drawing support for the installation and service of security, fire alarm, and life safety systems across projects of varying size and complexity. The role produces high-quality documentation that supports accurate installation, code compliance, and efficient project delivery. Key Responsibilities
- Create design drawings, floor plans, schematics, one-line diagrams, and power/battery/voltage drop calculations for use in engineering submittals, project planning, O&M manuals, and record documents.
- Apply intermediate to advanced drafting techniques and current low-voltage electrical standards, codes, and best practices.
- Review project scope, specified products, application requirements, and electrical requirements to ensure:
- Completeness of the proposed solution
- Compliance with applicable codes and standards
- Alignment with AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) requirements
- Develop and submit project submittal packages; revise and resubmit as required. Communicate design-driven changes that may affect project cost estimates, and coordinate with Sales on change orders when needed.
- Work from estimates, proposals, sketches, and internal collaboration to refine designs and documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Sales and Operations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in project turnover meetings between Sales/Engineering and Operations as requested.
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and customer meetings to gather field information and validate design assumptions.
- Provide technical support to Sales during proposal and scope development.
- Associate's degree in a related field required; Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline preferred.
- 5-7 years of field sales or technical design experience in low-voltage/security/fire alarm systems.
- 1-2 years of hands-on CAD design experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint; Microsoft Project a plus).
- Strong understanding of low-voltage systems for security and fire alarm applications.
- CAD design experience (AutoCAD or similar) and familiarity with electronic plan management.
- Strong time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interpret project documents, codes, and specifications accurately.
- Customer-focused mindset with the ability to support internal and external stakeholders.
