Manager, SALT Indirect Tax
Join KPMG US as a Manager in the State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.
You will work with a dynamic team and high‑profile clients to understand, analyze, and respond to complex business opportunities and challenges in multi‑state tax, ensuring excellent client service and quality deliverables.
Responsibilities
Provide excellent client service to multi‑state companies with state and local tax (SALT) issues including compliance, advisory services, planning, technology, and controversies.
Review information presented on state sales and use tax returns before, during, and after preparation.
Support multi‑state companies with state and local tax controversies, preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests.
Research and draft technical memoranda regarding SALT questions.
Supervise, mentor, and develop staff members.
Assist with business development, management, and delivery of SALT services and oversee large client project engagements.
Qualifications
Minimum five years of recent experience performing tax research and providing technical advice on multi‑state tax issues.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
Licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MST (master's in taxation) or the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation for non‑CPA eligible candidates; obtain one of the approved designations within one year of hire if not currently holding one.
Ability to develop business and foster client relationships.
Capability and desire to perform in a high‑energy team environment.
Excellent writing, communication, and tax research skills.

Salary California salary range: $90,800 – $189,300.
