Summary: Under the guidance of the Coding Director, the Advanced CCS Senior Coding Specialist ensures precise coding of diagnoses and procedures across all patient record types, utilizing accurate documentation within medical records. This role includes training and onboarding new team members on policies, procedures, coding, and EPIC workflows. Serving as a key resource, the specialist provides clarification on coding guidelines and supports accurate code assignment. Additionally, this position assists with backlog management and contributes to achieving the organization's financial objectives.

- Train and orient new employees on job duties, workflows, policies, coding, abstracting, and encoding software.
- Monitor workflows and recommend updates to policies and procedures to leadership.
- Support coding functions both retrospectively and concurrently to maintain timely workflow.
- Conduct compliance reviews to ensure coding accuracy and data integrity.
- Provide constructive feedback to coding specialists to enhance performance.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop action plans for maintaining accuracy and productivity.
- Oversee assigned work queues in EPIC, ensuring timely coder responses within 24 hours.
- Serve as an expert resource on ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding assignments.
- Promote standards of ownership, teamwork, communication, and compassion to support patient satisfaction and service excellence.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) credential required.
- Bachelor's or Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred.
- RHIA or RHIT credentials preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding experience in a hospital setting.
- Preferred 3 years auditing and/or lead coder experience.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding systems.
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and various medical specialties.
- Effective coordination of staff training and continuing education.
- Ability to work independently and solve problems efficiently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of medical necessity guidelines and their impact on coding accuracy and reimbursement.
