Produce Stock Clerk Comerciante De Productos

This position serves as a stock clerk primarily for the Produce Department assisting with the displays of fruit and vegetables.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Retrieve, load and unload produce and merchandise onto cart to move from back room to displays
  • Stock and rotate fruit, vegetables and other produce merchandise to ensure freshness
  • Operate department equipment and tools
  • Assist with the unloading of delivery trucks
  • Provide continuous attention to customer needs; greet, assist and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner
  • Keep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; Maintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employees
  • Report all accidents promptly to manager on duty
  • Promptly report maintenance and safety issues to manager on duty
  • Assist with stocking merchandise throughout the store when needed or scheduled
  • Attend department and store meetings when they are scheduled
  • Maintain punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies
  • Perform other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position

Secondary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Cross-train in the produce department to cut, portion, weigh and tag or label trays, bags and/or containers of fresh produce for display cases
  • May perform general cleaning duties such as mopping and sweeping
  • Gather shopping carts from parking lot when needed
  • Assist manager on duty in other departments when needed

Qualifications

Minimum requirements include:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum of 18 years of age
  • Use of electric pallet jack requires formal training and certification and shall not be used without such credentials

Competencies, skills and/or qualifications include:

  • Ability to properly use department equipment such as knives, wrapping device, scale, etc. to accomplish the essential duties of the position
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public
  • Takes responsibility for own actions
  • Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
  • Basic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measures
