Job Summary The Estimator Assistant supports the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive bids for civil and commercial construction projects. This role assists with quantity takeoffs, bid documentation, subcontractor pricing, and estimate organization for projects such as site work, utilities, earthwork, concrete, and commercial building construction. This is an excellent entry-level position for someone seeking long-term growth in construction estimating. Key Responsibilities Assist estimators with quantity takeoffs for civil construction scopes, including: Earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, and site improvements Structural, architectural, and specialty trade scopes Review plans, specifications, bid invitations, and addenda Organize bid documents and ensure all required scopes are covered Request, log, and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes Assist with estimate breakdowns by job phase, cost code, and trade Enter quantities, pricing, and notes into estimating software and spreadsheets Help prepare bid proposals and submission packages Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, vendors, and subcontractors Maintain organized digital and hard-copy estimating files Assist with post-bid documentation and estimate handoff to project management Perform general administrative and support duties for the estimating department Qualifications & Skills High school diploma or GED required; construction-related education preferred Interest or experience in civil construction Basic understanding of construction materials, means, and methods (or willingness to learn) Strong math skills and attention to detail Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications (or trainable) Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook Strong organizational and time-management skills Ability to work under tight bid deadlines and manage multiple tasks Effective written and verbal communication skills Experience with estimating software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Sage, or similar is a plus but not required Physical & Work Environment Office-based position with potential jobsite visits Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods Occasional lifting of plans or materials up to 25 lbs What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Opportunity for advancement within the estimating or project management team Benefits package including [customize: medical, retirement, PTO, etc.] Stable employment with a growing construction company Career Development This position provides a pathway to advancement into roles such as Estimator, Project Engineer, or Project Manager, depending on performance and interest.
