Job Summary The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and compliant environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role performs routine preventive maintenance, emergency response repairs, and system monitoring across facility equipment in alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.

Essential Functions

Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC/R systems including air handlers, chillers, boilers, compressors, pumps, VAV systems, and related components.

Respond promptly to urgent service requests involving HVAC issues, leaks, equipment failures, and facility emergencies such as hazardous spills, fire alarms, and weather-related needs.

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC/R systems and associated infrastructure; document findings and initiate corrective work orders as needed.

Monitor, test, and adjust building automation systems (BAS) and environmental controls to ensure energy efficiency and optimal performance.

Order and track inventory and parts for repairs and maintenance activities; ensure timely documentation of labor, materials, and task completion.

Complete Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA) prior to performing work in patient care areas to maintain safety and compliance.

Identify and report potential facility issues while navigating facility spaces; create or complete work orders to address issues found.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and compliance checks in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience working in a hospital or medical facility preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing HVAC/R systems, including electrical and control systems.

Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.

Effective communication and documentation skills.

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks.

Commitment to safety and infection prevention protocols in healthcare environments.

Licenses and Certifications

Certified HVAC Technician preferred.
