Orion Security Solutions is seeking a qualified Security Systems Designer for a full-time position to be based in Carrollton, TX. The Security Systems Designer is responsible for designing, engineering, drafting, and documenting physical security systems, including Access Control, CCTV/Surveillance, Intrusion Detection, and Structured Cabling systems for projects of moderate to high complexity. This role ensures high-quality, accurate designs that support efficient installation, operational reliability, and customer satisfaction.
The position reports to the Director of Design and collaborates closely with lead and peer designers, Sales, Project Management, and Technical teams to continuously improve standards, best practices, and operational efficiency. Occasional travel may be required to support site surveys and project development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Produce accurate design drawings, layouts, and documentation for physical security systems using CAD software.
Maintain and apply CAD standards, templates, title blocks, layering conventions, and organized file structures to ensure consistent and high-quality deliverables (AutoCAD preferred).
Interpret project specifications, architectural drawings, and technical requirements to develop efficient and compliant system designs.
Perform basic engineering calculations as required (heat load, power requirements, voltage drop, cable routing, etc.).
Conduct site surveys to collect field data, validate design assumptions, and support project scoping and quoting efforts.
Collaborate with Sales, Project Managers, and Technical staff to optimize system layouts and resolve design challenges.
Prepare accurate As-Installed drawings based on field markups and project closeout documentation.
Maintain working knowledge of Orion Security Solutions’ product lines and emerging technologies.
Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including development of standards, workflows, and best practices.
Demonstrate strong attention to detail, organization, and accountability while managing multiple priorities.
Skills and Abilities
Strong proficiency in CAD drafting and design principles, including layering, blocks, X-references, viewports, and file management.
Ability to design integrated physical security systems, including Access Control, CCTV/Surveillance, Intrusion Detection, and Structured Cabling.
Strong technical aptitude with the ability to visualize component interaction within real-world installation environments.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation, including floor plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and control panel layouts.
Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum two-year technical degree in electrical/electronic systems or related field or equivalent experience
Familiarity with local AHJs and permitting requirements
Strong oral, written communication and analytic skills.
Strong time management skills and the ability to multi-task.
Ability to adjust to shifting priorities
Must possess a strong sense of urgency
State of Texas license
Desired Qualifications
Three years of experience in electronic systems design and installation
1+ years of AutoCAD experience
Experience with Bluebeam
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio, Teams)
