Estimators
with specialized knowledge in Earthwork (excavation, grading, trenching, utilities, and related earthwork for civil and heavy industrial projects) or in Concrete (concrete mixes, material density, foundation requirements, vertical concrete codes, and quantity calculations).
Estimator Position Summary The Estimator must possess an expansive knowledge of building materials, understand the requirements for various construction projects, engage with up-to-date building methodologies and track the fluctuations of market prices as well as regulatory standards. This position is a key driver in the pre‑construction process and profitability of the company.
Minimum Qualifications
10 years of estimating experience for concrete or earthwork in heavy industrial or civil construction, preferably in wet infrastructure and utilities
A Bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering required OR equivalent experience
Proficiency using estimating software
Proficiency in Bluebeam, Primavera P6 (or other similar software) and Microsoft Office
Is currently living in the Greater St. Louis metro area
Job Responsibilities
Direction and development of Junior Estimators
Communicate with the client to gain insights, understand their vision, and establish agreement on the project
Develop a thorough understanding of the project demands and needed resources
Create metrics, review documents, and establish a timeline to generate valid estimates
Collect key construction documents, such as property plans, blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications
Determine the most suitable suppliers, contractors, vendors, and materials for every project
Meet with multiple vendors and contractors to negotiate pricing for construction materials, establish timelines, and determine project hours
Make visits to construction sites, warehouses, and other such venues to gather comprehensive insights about the project
Craft a work schedule to determine the total duration expected for project completion
Create a material takeoff and apply current pricing knowledge
Conduct risk assessments and plan for contingencies if the project experiences delays or unanticipated setbacks
Build relationships and maintain a directory of vendors, suppliers, and contractors
Monitor costs and adjust projections as the project progresses
Prepare cost, expenditure statements, and forecasts throughout the project
Work closely with key personnel, including engineers, architects, contractors, subcontractors, and business owners
Curate economic feasibility studies on plan modifications and the adjustments made to the preliminary expense plan
Process the required paperwork and permits for building sites
Stay up to date with building codes and industry trends
