Development and Board Relations Manager

The Development and Board Relations Manager is a multi‑faceted role that reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board of Directors, Campaign Manager, and Capital Campaign Committee to advance the organization’s capital campaign, agency‑wide fundraising, and marketing efforts. The position supports a broad‑based fundraising strategy targeting individuals, governmental bodies, corporations, and foundations. The Development and Board Relations Manager plays a visible leadership role in advancing the campaign plan, building momentum, and fostering excitement, optimism, and confidence in achieving campaign and organizational fundraising goals.

Baden Street Settlement is advancing the Baden Believes capital campaign to build a new main campus that will strengthen service delivery, expand programs, and better support adults, children, and families in northeast Rochester.
Specific Accountabilities
Reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Board of Directors and Campaign Manager
Leads the Development function, collaborating with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Campaign Manager, program staff, volunteers, and grant consultants
Supports both the Baden Believes capital campaign and overall agency fundraising and marketing efforts
Maintains regular communication with staff, board members, committees, consultants, and volunteers engaged in fundraising, marketing, and campaign activities
Campaign Management
Serves as the Primary Point of Contact for the Campaign and Campaign Manager
Implements, and reports on all Campaign functions
Assists with training, and managing any Campaign Cabinet and Board of Directors
Schedules and supports Campaign and donor meetings
Plans and implements all Campaign related events in coordination with the Board of Directors and Campaign manager
Maintains and markets an updated list of naming opportunities
Helps implements the strategy and planning of the Campaign
Campaign Committee Work
Schedules Campaign committee meetings and makes sure all necessary material is organized and available at the meeting
Attends each campaign meeting, keeps accurate notes from the meeting, coordinates meeting follows up and provides notes for Campaign leadership
Donor Cultivation, Meeting, and Solicitation Work
Executes cultivation and solicitation plans.
Works independently and collaboratively with the Executive Director, members of the Campaign Committee, and Board to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects
Schedules meetings with prospective donors. Maintains momentum for donor meetings by encouraging proactive outreach by Campaign committee, Board, and organizational leaders
Prepares materials needed for major donor meetings. Customizes materials, keeps them updated and organized, and prepares packages of materials for Campaign donor meetings
Follows up from major donor meetings to ensure actions are recorded and implementedSupports the Executive Director, Board, Campaign Manager, and any Consultants in planning and implementing any public or private funding strategy.
Gift Acknowledgment, Tracking and Reporting
Ensures that every Campaign gift and pledge is managed seamlessly, including prompt donor gift agreements and gift acknowledgement.
Makes sure that each Campaign gift is credited appropriately in the donor database, noting any ongoing pledge payments, and reminders
Tracks all donor and prospect activity in donor database
Prepares monthly and as needed reports for the Executive Director, Campaign Manager, Board, and Campaign Committee
Board of Directors Liaison
Foster teamwork between the Board and staff for a unified approach to the organization’s goals
Coordinate and attend all board meetings, prepare materials, and ensure members have the information they need
Assist in implementing and developing organizational policies in collaboration with the board and executive director
Function as the main contact for information exchange between the board and staff, ensuring timely updates and decisions
Support board development through orientation, training, and positive interactions between board members and staff
Maintain accurate records of board activities, decisions, and ensure compliance with legal requirements for nonprofit governance
Supports agency marketing and communications efforts in coordination with leadership
Manages and maintains the organization’s social media platforms to support fundraising, campaign visibility, and community engagement
Oversees planning and execution of major agency fundraising and donor events, including coordination with staff, board members, and external partners
Ensures consistent messaging across fundraising, campaign, and marketing initiatives
Knowledge, Skills & Technical Ability
Strong analytical ability
Excellent oral, written, presentation, and people skills
Ability and desire to work with the donor database
Ability to set goals strategically and oversee execution
Ability to work cross‑functionally with various internal and external constituents
High level of discretion and ethical approach to fundraising
Flexibility with work duties assigned and openness to changing organizational priorities
