PRESIDENT & CEO

Compensation:

$70,000 to $90,000. Salary is based on experience with insurance and benefits.

Position Description:

The President & CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and daily operations of the organization. This position works in partnership with the Board of Directors, elected officials, community partners, and the City of Williston. The President & CEO advances the Chamber’s mission through effective member services, financial stewardship, program development, advocacy, and community engagement.

The President & CEO serves as the primary representative and spokesperson for the Chamber and plays a key role in supporting and collaborating with local economic development efforts that promote business/workforce retention, expansion, and economic vitality within the Williston Community. This role blends leadership, community engagement, advocacy, and operational management to ensure the Chamber remains relevant, financially strong, and impactful.

Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision aligned with the Chamber’s mission and board priorities
  • Advise and collaborate with the Board of Directors on strategy, policy, and organizational performance
  • Identifyemerging economic, workforce, and policy issues affecting the local business communityin the Williston area/Northwest North Dakota.

Advocacy & Public Policy

  • Serve as the Chamber’s chief advocate on business-related issues at the local, state, and federal levels
  • Work with the Policy Committee to oversee current and upcoming issues pertinent to the business community
  • Build relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and partner organizations
  • Communicate policy positions clearly to members and stakeholders

Member Engagement & Growth

  • Strengthenmember value through programs, events, and services
  • Collaborate with the Member Relations Manager to lead efforts to recruit,retain, and engage Chamber members
  • Actively engage with businesses of all sizes to understand their needs and challenges

Community & External Relations

  • Serve as the public face and spokesperson of the Chamber
  • Represent the Chamber at community events, meetings, and regional partnerships
  • Foster collaboration with economic development organizations, nonprofits, and educational institutions
  • Coordinate high-impact contracts with contractors

Operational & Financial Management

  • Oversee daily operations, staff, and programs of the Chamber
  • Develop and manage the annual budget, ensuring financial stability
  • Ensure strong governance practices, policies, and compliance
  • Maintain all federally mandated 990 IRS governance and policies (i.e.Audit and Audit Committee, Whistleblower Policy, Conflict of Interest Statements for all employees and board directors, etc.)
  • Maintain various Chamber documents including the Mission Statement, Bylaws, Policy Manual, Budget, Meeting Minutes, and IRS Form 990
  • Manage the finances of the Chamber and the Western Star Foundation, including but not limited to:
  • Monitor transactions and financial status of all members
  • Develop sources of non-dues revenues
  • Collect, account for and prepare financial reports of all monies received and spent in a transparent manner monthly
  • Recommend annual budget and constantlymonitorfinancial position
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of all Chamber and Foundation accounts
  • Runtimelyaging, comparison, budget percentage, and event financials
  • Provide quarterly and EOY management reports and comparisons

Staff Leadership & Culture

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high performing team
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven organizational culture
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and support
  • Provide day-to-day leadership that correlates with the Chamber’s mission
  • ManageChamber employees and conduct annual employee evaluations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degreerequired; advanced degree preferred
  • 3-5+ years of leadership experience (Chamber, nonprofit, economic development, or related field preferred)
  • Proven experience instrategic planning,financial management, and organizational leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Professional experience inthe Williston/Northwest North Dakota or similar communities preferred
