SpaceX was founded to enable human life on Mars. The CMM Programmer role requires a comprehensive understanding of CMM programming, GD&T, operations and reporting. This position works closely with machinists, leads, engineering teams, and machining operations management to improve accuracy and first article success in the Bastrop machining area.

Responsibilities

Perform precision inspection (CMM or surface plate) verification on mechanical parts, components, assemblies and materials, including first article parts, in-process and final inspection for workmanship and conformance to drawings/specifications.

Understand GD&T requirements as applied to engineering drawings and notes.

Identify interpretation issues related to dimensions or requirements.

Select and utilize standard gauges to ensure quality and inspect feature tolerances with appropriate tools.

Work in a cross-functional environment using CMM programming software with bridge-style machines up to possible 5-axis head motion.

Create, maintain, verify and organize all programs, ensuring current revision control in coordination with Quality Assurance.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continually improve inspection processes and specifications.

Assist engineering with part inspection plans.

Identify engineering/design/GD&T issues causing ambiguity in manufacturing and inspection.

Recommend drawing changes to improve manufacturability.

Assist engineering and management with tools procurement (gauges, CMM machines, etc.).

Create and administer training to help others exceed job expectations.

Basic Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

3+ years of CMM programming experience

Preferred Skills and Experience

Primary programming language is PC-DMIS

CMM experience, including programming on multi-sensing CMMs (vision, laser, touch probe, etc.)

Ability to read and interpret GD&T and drawing criteria, notes and tolerances

Ability to design/develop quality gauging to improve efficiencies

Understands and adheres to ISO 9001

Experience with setup of CMM or Romer Arm

Knowledge of tool requirements to complete the job

Additional Requirements

Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted

Ability to lift, stand, climb, bend, grasp, sit, pull, push, stoop, stretch, and carry as part of the job

Manual dexterity to handle tools and controls; exposure to noise

Willingness to work in a cleanroom environment with PPE (bunny suit, hair net, beard net, etc.)

Ability to work all shifts, overtime and weekends as needed
