Underwriting Assistant – Excess Casualty
Location: Exton, PA
Salary: USD $53,100 - $84,000 (base)
Responsibilities
Pre‑underwrite, evaluate risk, and assess completeness of the underwriting package before it reaches the Underwriter.
Communicate directly with Brokers to gather account and insured information required for risk analysis.
Apply line‑of‑business product underwriting rules and guidelines for preliminary analysis of submissions.
Initiate basic coverage structuring, quotation, and binder packages on behalf of the Underwriter.
Collaborate with Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, and internal units within XL Catlin to manage the status and workflow of multiple tasks and accounts.
Monitor account status to ensure completion of outstanding tasks such as premium collection and policy issuance for bound accounts.
Maintain a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by all stakeholders, including fronting partners worldwide.
Correspond verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts across the globe, respecting local language, time‑zone differences, and cultural norms.
Report directly to the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in insurance or related fields.
Adept interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with diverse groups.
Proven prioritization and time‑management skills, delivering accurate results.
Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking abilities.
