The Opportunity As a Senior Interior Designer at SHP, you'll provide design leadership across multiple complex projects, shaping interior environments that are thoughtful, functional, and deeply connected to architectural intent. This role is designed for an experienced designer who brings confidence, clarity, strong design judgment, and who enjoys mentoring others while elevating the quality and consistency of interior design work.
You'll lead interior design efforts from early concept through construction, balancing creativity with technical rigor, client needs, and project constraints. In close partnership with Project Architects, Project Managers, and firm leadership, you'll help deliver cohesive, high-quality environments that enhance user experience and support SHP's commitment to impactful design.

Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage interior design scope across multiple projects, typically varying in size and complexity.
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients on interior design matters, ensuring alignment, responsiveness, and trust.
Partner closely with Project Architects and Project Managers to integrate interior and architectural design intent, execution, and delivery.
Lead interior design development with the project team from programming and concept design through construction administration.
Guide space planning, material selection, finishes, furnishings, and color palettes with attention to performance, durability, and user experience.
Coordinate with consultants, vendors, and manufacturers to support integrated and buildable interior solutions.
Mentor and support Interior Designers and emerging professionals through coaching, delegation, and design feedback.
Contribute to firmwide interior design standards, tools, libraries, and best practices.
Support business development efforts, including pursuits, interviews, and client presentations as needed.
Key Requirements Experience
Extensive experience leading integrated design projects within an architecture or A/E firm.
Demonstrated success leading interior design efforts on complex projects, ideally within education, civic, workplace, or institutional markets.
Proven ability to carry projects through all phases, from concept through construction administration.
Design & Technical Expertise
Strong understanding of space planning, building systems coordination, and interior detailing.
Proficiency in Revit and familiarity with specifications and FF&E processes.
Knowledge of codes, accessibility requirements, and material performance standards.
Ability to lead design teams while remaining engaged in hands‑on design work.
Experience mentoring others and fostering a collaborative, inclusive studio culture.
Strong design judgment, with the ability to balance creativity and constructability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Comfortable leading client presentations, facilitating design discussions, and resolving challenges.
Collaborative, composed under pressure, and solutions‑focused.
Education & Credentials
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from an accredited program required.
NCIDQ certification required.
LEED accreditation or familiarity with sustainable design practices is a plus.
This role is based in one of our physical office locations – Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; or Greensboro, NC – and is ideal for candidates who thrive in a highly collaborative, in‑person environment. Being onsite allows for deeper day‑to‑day engagement with peers and project teams, faster decision making, and organic moments of creativity and mentorship that emerge through shared space.
Travel is a key part of how we build relationships, gather insight from the people we design for, and bring our ideas to life alongside clients and partners.
