Recreation Aide Deadline to apply: This recruitment will remain open for a minimum of ten (10) calendar days and will close at 05:00 p.m. (PST) on January 27, 2025, or until a sufficient number of applications have been received. The opportunity: The Recreation Aide, under general supervision, assists in planning and operating various city recreation programs, supervises youth in recreational settings, and performs light clerical duties. This role involves organizing and conducting activities in areas such as youth programs, sports, senior programs, special events, seasonal events, and facility rentals. Recreation Aides help create enriching environments that offer recreational, educational, and social opportunities for the community. Key responsibilities include teaching sportsmanship, maintaining accurate records, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring a safe environment. Note: This is an at-will, seasonal, part-time position without benefits. Positions may end at any time, and there is no guarantee of hours. Work hours for part-time positions are scheduled based on operational need and typically do not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year from July 1 through June 30, unless further authorized. Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, holidays, weekends, and split shifts. Ideal candidate: The ideal candidate for the Recreation Aide position is an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with some experience in a related field, whether paid or volunteer. They should have a solid understanding of recreational activities and programs, sports fundamentals, and safety practices, such as CPR and first aid. The candidate must possess strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively plan and lead recreational programs for various age groups. They should be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, and have the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, participants, and the community. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are highly desirable, adding value to their ability to serve a diverse population. Minimum and desirable qualifications: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school, or G.E.D. equivalent, and some paid or volunteer experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have six (6) months of increasingly responsible experience (paid or volunteer) in community services and/or customer service or equivalent. Required licenses and certifications: Valid CPR/AED/First Aid certification or can obtain one within six (6) months of hire. Maintaining this certification is a condition of continued employment.
