Position Overview

The Director, Content Strategy is responsible for the execution and hands‑on management of assigned client content programs and plays a content strategy leadership role with both clients and Tendo content team. Working closely with Tendo executives and senior leadership, the content strategy director’s responsibilities include the strategy, planning, execution and optimization of compelling content experiences for enterprise clients; and includes earning the trust of senior level stakeholders through consulting and delivering insightful solutions.

Candidate must have B2B experience and understanding of enterprise IT markets, products, and buying audiences. As well, since many of Tendo’s clients are B2B technology companies, the Content Strategy Lead must have or develop knowledge, appreciation and curiosity about enterprise IT technologies and buying audiences.

Specific Responsibilities

Digital Content strategy execution and leadership

  • Serve as content strategy lead on client engagements. Provide active client leadership by representing Tendo content experience POV and applying best practices to client engagements.
  • Develop and manage the creation of quality content strategy deliverables, including content maturity assessments and strategic roadmaps, audits and gap analyses, taxonomy and personalization strategies, campaign frameworks, style and tone of voice guides, CMS documentation and training, etc.
  • Develop comprehensive information architectures, content models, wireframes and business rules for meaningful content experiences and personalization opportunities.
  • Establish content goals and performance metrics with a view to ongoing content optimization.
  • Proactive exploration of AI tools and active leadership of the development and considered experimentation of relevant AI use cases and methodologies. Ongoing leadership and cross‑team collaboration in the responsible internal and client‑facing use of AI for improved and optimized content experience.
  • Conduct current state analyses; competitive analyses; and market, buyer, and content analyses through first‑hand research, interviews, and third‑party sources.
  • Identify and document the content needs of key audiences, across all stages of the customer journey, in the form of content‑actionable personas and journeys.
  • Depending on project scope, contribute to content deliverables such as copywriting, editing, interviewing, asset creation (blogs, infographics, videos, podcasts, social content, etc.).
  • Establish and maintain quality standards on all assigned accounts.
  • Deliver, manage, and evolve highest standard of quality for all Tendo client deliverables, accountable for quality of work for all assigned clients.
  • Provide support across a breadth of content engagements as required; define and execute effective strategies based on client goals.

Team and thought leadership

  • Manage and develop full‑time and contract content strategy staff, ensuring they are trained in Tendo best practices for content marketing, content strategy, client leadership, and content development and execution on multiple platforms (e.g., interactive, video, podcast, graphic, etc.)
  • Coach and teach, deliver honest timely feedback, and manage performance programs for content strategists and/or assigned team. Set goals and establish focus, monitor progress, and course‑correct as needed. Conduct initial three‑month and annual performance evaluations.
  • Define and implement workflow and process efficiencies to enable service delivery at scale. Identify, document, and socialize processes for different deliverables and coordinate with EVP on best practices.
  • Identify, develop business rationale, and propose the development of new and relevant content service offerings.
  • Cultivate knowledge and expertise within one or more domains of content strategy (to be defined by Tendo executive team):
  • Share knowledge and learnings via presentation to colleagues, presentations to Tendo staff twice per year
  • Articulate thought leadership on Tendo’s blog and in client communications on a quarterly basis
  • Identify and pitch opportunities to present thought leadership at industry conferences and other relevant speaking engagements
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with key clients as Tendo content lead to understand their business direction, strategies, priorities, goals and pain points.
  • Participate in the pitch process. Establish credibility and develop relationships with prospects as assigned during the pitch process; actively foster engagement that will lead to new opportunities across agency services.
  • Working with EVP and independently, lead content strategy and experience engagements.
  • Ensure the vision and objectives of the client are effectively aligned with the content strategy. Lead, enrich and advance client vision based on business and marketing goals.
  • Lead and integrate measurement initiatives to further the client’s understanding of ROI and program performance.

Account expansion and new business

  • Identify account expansion opportunities; Work with business development and account leads on new opportunities.
  • Contribute to new business development in support of revenue growth and expansion goals established by executive leadership.
  • Contribute to new business proposals with a clear articulation of potential solutions.
  • Represent Tendo content strategy perspective in client presentations and launch meetings.

Project leadership

  • Proactively identify and apply creative solutions to client challenges and program execution.
  • Manage project execution and teams, ensuring team members understand their roles and have the resources they need to succeed,
  • Develop a high‑level approach for each workstream or project you’re leading, leveraging past Tendo work where relevant, but ensuring that the work is tailored to address key client goals
  • Contribute to the development of scope and project plans for new initiatives
  • Assign roles and responsibilities (including hours allocations) for each workstream/project
  • Plan and facilitate dry runs and working sessions with EVP and other team leads as appropriate to ensure
  • Deliver assigned projects on schedule and on budget.
  • Create and lead presentation of client deliverables and recommendations.
  • Manage client expectations as needed and communicate progress as appropriate in a clear and proactive manner; anticipate challenges and suggest solutions.

Qualifications

A minimum of 10 years of content strategy experience is required, with at least 5 of those years spent in senior content strategy roles. The candidate should possess strong leadership ability and be comfortable collaborating with others, lead a project team, thrive in a fast‑paced environment, and enjoy a diversity of projects. In addition, they will have outstanding client‑relations and presentation skills, handle stress with grace and tact, have a flair for wordsmithing, and possess an excellent sense of humor.

  • Experience working on complex content strategy engagements with multiple workstreams, stakeholders and team members within enterprise scale, complex B2B organizations.
  • Experience delivering projects on time and on budget
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evolving landscape of AI tools, technologies, models and use cases relevant to the practice, process and discipline of content experience and digital and content strategy.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and the ability to recommend, guide and/or incorporate SEO best practices.
  • Mastery of MS Word and Excel.
  • Mastery of MS PPT, and/or Keynote.
  • Proficiency in project management and project scheduling tools such as MS Project or Team Gantt, Smartsheet, Asana, etc.
  • Ability to work independently in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma
  • Experience with and understanding of content management systems such as Adobe AEM, Sitecore, WordPress, etc.
  • Experience with web and content inventory and analytics tools, such as CAT, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, BrightEdge, etc.
