Under general supervision performs work of moderate difficulty coordinating public outreach, community and media relations, volunteer programs, fund raising, and marketing activities; performs related work as assigned.
The ideal candidate would have a parks and recreational background with marketing, outreach, and community engagement experience, some graphic design experience, experience recruiting and managing volunteers, and build collaborative relationships with colleagues and customers.
Assists in the development of, and implements and oversees, communications programs utilizing telecommunications, multimedia, and print techniques
Assists in the development of organizational, departmental, or divisional educational material, promotional brochures, and literature
Conducts research and development of content for publication and other public information materials
Produces departmental publications, newsletters and website information
Coordinates updates and additions to the department web pages and events calendar
Acts as the department webmaster and social media manager
Writes press releases, public service announcements and articles, and promotes department programs and events, parks, open spaces and facilities
Leads media relations activities and acts as CCPR spokesperson
Develops, implements and manages the department's sponsorship recruitment, multi-media marketing and advertising strategy
Research, develops and implements media plans, identifying target audience and ideal media outlets
Surveys user interests and proposes new departmental offerings, attractions, and partnerships
Develops, implements, evaluates, and updates department marketing plan
Directs, plans, recruits, and administers volunteer programs
Coordinates and collaborates with community-based organizations, public agencies, coalitions, schools, and other appropriate groups to implement volunteer programs
Coordinates and facilitates public meetings
Develops and implements fundraising activities
Plans and coordinates groundbreakings and other public ceremonies
May act as staff liaison to the Friends of the Parks program
Prepares and administers program budget
Supervises assigned personnel
May supervise and train student employees, interns and/or volunteers
May develop and administer grants and new funding sources
Research new technology for use in marketing and communications activities
Performs other duties as assigned
Essential functions of this position include but not limited to: driving; sitting; working with and around others; dealing with interruptions; repetitive motion (hand/wrist) for computer work; vision acuity (near) for routine office and customer service duties; hearing and speech for ordinary conversation; finger dexterity for typing and paperwork.
Associate degree in public/business administration, marketing, parks and recreation management, natural resources, communications or a related field, and two years of administrative experience; OR
Bachelor degree in public/business administration, marketing, parks and recreation management, natural resources, communications or a related field, and one year of administrative experience; OR
Any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree; Skilled in effective communication; Experience working in parks and recreation; Grant writing; Community engagement; Project management.

Principles and practices of journalism, public relations, marketing, and communication
Sponsorship programs
Marketing techniques using various media
The production and use of various media in public relations / marketing activities

Communicating complex concepts to diverse groups
