Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)
Second Assistant Superintendent
Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA), Savannah, Georgia, United States, 31441
The Savannah Golf Club has made a significant impact on the game of golf as well as American and Georgian history. On record The Savannah Golf Club is the Oldest Golf Club in America and is believed to be the first American city where the game of golf was played. Our proud heritage dates back to our beginnings in 1794.
The Savannah Golf Club is a private member owned organization proud of its past and present day traditions in golf. Our course today has hosted the State Amateur Championship seven times, the State Senior Amateur Championship three times, the Women's State Amateur and it has played host to the Regional Qualifying for both the State Amateur and Southern Amateur Championships. Our golf club also boasts an impressive Clubhouse complete with various dining and bar facilities, a state of the art tennis and pickleball complex and a luxury pool and cabana.
Members enjoy a Donald Ross designed 18-hole championship golf course layout which provides a challenge to golfers of all skill levels, yet member-friendly. Historic Civil War bunkers line fairways, moss draped oaks and rustic native areas give way to natural undulations of topography and give the course a feel that makes it both memorable and walkable. Most recently, famed golf course architect, Gil Hanse has developed and implemented a Master Plan and restored the original Donald Ross designs back to life.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting in the oversite of the operation, and maintenance of the golf course to ensure optimal playing conditions. This includes assisting the agronomy team, attending the turfgrass, and maintaining the landscape. The Assistant Superintendent assists with projects, and assists the management team in ensuring the course is ready for daily play, tournaments, and special events.
