The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to help maintain high-quality playing conditions and support the safe, efficient operation of its municipal golf courses through collaborative leadership and skilled turf management.

About this Opportunity Assists in directing and supervising all grounds, building, construction, and equipment maintenance at City golf courses. Works with the Golf Course Superintendents to ensure high-quality playing conditions, the safe and efficient operation of maintenance facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in supervising the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance feedback.
Helps develops and implements golf course maintenance programs that provide quality playing conditions for the public.
Applies turf maintenance chemicals and fertilizers as directed; monitors turf conditions for disease, pest activity and irrigation needs.
Assists with general grounds and building maintenance
Operates, repairs, and maintains irrigation including installation and troubleshooting.
Assists in daily operations, capital equipment, and capital improvement; monitors assigned expenditures.
Maintains records of golf course maintenance activities and schedules.
Provides input and technical advice to golf staff on turfgrass management, irrigation, and equipment care.
Performs related work as required
Required Education and Experience
Associate’s degree or two years of relevant college-level course work from an accredited college or university in turf grass management or
One (1) to three (3) years in turf grass management or
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications
Iowa Pesticide Applicator License in categories 3OT & 5
Desired Qualifications
CDL preferred
Position Schedule
7 days/week during season, varied hours (includes weekend mornings). Rotating weekends-- one weekend off/month. Snow removal during winter months-- parking lots and sidewalks at courses.
