PUBLIC NOTICE- DEA Criminal Investigators This is a public notice for Drug Enforcement Administration Criminal Investigator GL-1811-7/9/11 positions open to U.S. Citizens.

DUTIES

Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug‑related activities.

Prepare comprehensive and succinct criminal investigative reports and deliver briefings for senior personnel and other Federal, state, and local agencies.

Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities.

Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants, and other means.

Testify on behalf of the Federal government in court or before grand juries.

Additional duties may be assigned based on an individual's unique knowledge, skills, and/or experience.

BASIC AGENT TRAINING Applicants who have not completed previous federal law‑enforcement training through another federal law‑enforcement agency must attend and complete a 16‑week residential training program. Current or former 1811 applicants who have successfully completed a Federal Criminal Investigation training program through another federal law‑enforcement agency may qualify for a 3‑week Special Agent Transition Program (FCIT transcripts must be attached).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

U.S. citizenship required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top‑Secret security clearance.

Must sign a mobility agreement confirming willingness to accept relocation to any DEA location.

Must complete a pre‑employment medical clearance and annual medical examination.

A full‑scope pre‑employment polygraph is required. 1811 applicants who have previously passed a polygraph may seek reciprocity.

Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/59.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and no older than 36 at the time of appointment, unless eligible for a veteran or other preference.

Successful E‑Verify employment verification check required.

Selectees will serve a 1‑year or2‑year trial period, during which fitness will be evaluated.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Subject to random drug testing.

Must successfully complete a 16‑20 week Basic Agent Training (BAT) course at the DEA Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

QUALIFICATIONS All applicants must meet the basic qualification requirements for the position.

For the GL‑07 Level

One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GL/GS‑05 level, including:

Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law.

Writing reports of findings, results, or accomplishments.

Researching, collecting, and analyzing data from various sources.

Substitution of education: One full year of graduate‑level education in an appropriate field, or superior academic achievement for bachelor’s degree applicants (SAAb>See DOP guidelines for GPA and class standing requirements.

For the GL‑09 Level

One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GL/GS‑07 level, including:

Assisting in investigations of alleged or suspected violations of law.

Collecting and analyzing investigation data.

Writing reports and conducting briefings.

Meeting or corresponding with court officials and law‑enforcement personnel.

Assisting prosecuting attorneys in case preparation and testifying in proceedings.

Substitution of education: Master’s degree, or two full years of graduate education leading to a Master’s, or LL.B./J.D., qualified for a 3‑week transition program.

For the GS‑11 Level

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GL/GS‑09 level, demonstrating:

Conducting or supporting federal investigations with federal agencies.

Developing operational plans and investigative priorities.

Operating undercover and participating in raids, seizures, and arrests.

Developing and eliciting information from confidential sources.

Interviewing and interrogating suspects.

Organizing evidence for prosecution and testifying in court.

Substitution of education: Ph.D., LL.M., or three years of graduate education leading to them.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Appointments will be made under 5 CFR 213.3210 (Schedule B), and may be converted to permanent career appointments after the third or fourth year. The benefits package includes medical, dental, life insurance, and retirement plans. Firearms proficiency and LEAP compensation are required. Physical fitness and occasional overtime are part of the role.
