Senior Customs Entry Writer

Job Summary The Senior Customs Entry Writer handles customs clearance for import shipments. Responsibilities include preparing and filing customs entries, classifying products, working with parties, and guiding junior team members. The role demands solid experience in freight forwarding and customs brokerage to manage tough entries and resolve issues quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and file formal and informal customs entries, including in-bond shipments, through the ABI system for quick freight release.
Classify goods with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and determine correct valuation, duties, and taxes.
Collaborate with importers, freight forwarders, carriers, and government agencies (e.g., FDA, USDA) to obtain documents and resolve issues.
Track shipments, monitor clearance status, and ensure compliance with U.S. Customs rules and other agency requirements.
Manage special tasks such as ISF filings, drawback entries, and responses to CBP requests (CF28/CF29).
Provide customer service by issuing updates, resolving issues, and serving as the client contact.
Guide and train junior entry writers on procedures, rules, and best practices.
Stay current on customs laws, tariffs, and trade rules through regular monitoring.
Review entries for accuracy and maintain records in brokerage software.
Qualifications
At least 5+ years experience as a Customs Entry Writer in freight forwarding or customs brokerage.
Strong understanding of U.S. Customs rules, ABI/DIS systems, HTS classification, and PGA requirements.
Experience with air and ocean import clearances is a plus.
Licensed Customs Broker (LCB) preferred.
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and customs brokerage software.
Effective communication skills for interacting with clients, agents, and officials.
Competitive salary: $70,000 to $100,000 per year, based on experience (higher for LCB).
