This position provides assistance to the Judges and Court Clerks during court sessions, and assists in the operation of the court; ensures that the public, attorneys, defendants, witnesses, jurors, law enforcement and victims navigate through court with full knowledge and understanding of procedures and protocols while maintaining proper decorum; performs a variety of other tasks, including but not limited to, filing documents, preparing dockets, and running errands for the judges, court clerks, court staff and court administrator; performs a variety of technical record keeping and clerical duties in the court; completes tasks according to established policies and procedures, works within a structured team environment, and contributes through knowledge, skills, and good work habits; and performs related work as assigned. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.
The work is considered light-to‑medium in nature and involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis, or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy. While performing police work, must be able to defend one's self from assault and to restrain suspects of varying weights. The work requires the following physical abilities to perform the essential job functions: balancing, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, pulling, pushing, reaching, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Assists with the daily activities of Municipal Court, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations;
Assists defendants, complainants, witnesses, attorneys, assistant solicitors, court personnel, law enforcement personnel, jurors, judges and others in completing various legal forms as required by the court;
Communicates a wide variety of information to the public regarding court functions and procedures in and around the courtroom and occasionally by telephone;
Attends all court sessions as an officer of the court and follows directions of the court clerks and judges during court;
Checks‑in attorneys, pro se defendants, witnesses and victims for court dockets;
Assists defendants and attorneys in dispersing and completing diversion programైన్ applications, such as Pre‑Trial Invention (PTI) Program and Alcohol Education Program (AEP);
Transports, carries, moves files to and from various locations within the court;
Calls court to order and maintains appropriate decorum in the courtroom;
Operates and maintains audio equipment and plays pre‑court session videos to the public;
Prepares and distributes notices or other legal documents as needed;
Assists jury clerk during the jury selection process; posts jury selection, acts as jury liaison for seated jurors until a verdict is reached; escorts jurors to and from the courtroom, provides parking validation tickets and Juror Work Certificates to jurors when requested; communicates trial schedules and procedural expectations to jurors;
Assists with security response in emergency situations and responds to requests for assistance;
Assists or substitutes for other Court employees as needed;
Assists in preparation of case files for court dockets;
Assists in the coordination of case scheduling and case tracking;
Files case files, ticket files, forms, cards and other documents both alphabetically and numerically in established filing systems;
Locates and retrieves case files, ticket files, forms and other documents from established filing systems;
Operates equipment such as: computers, printers, copiers, fax machines and shredder; and
Performs other related duties as assigned by the court clerks, judges and court administrator.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
High School diploma or GED;
One (1) year of relevant prior experience, preferably in a criminal justice/courtroom environment;
Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office; must have strong computer, clerical, and communication skills;
Must have a good understanding of legal terminology and/or criminal procedures preferred;

Must have the ability to recognize dangerous situations;

Ability to provide information guidance or assistance to people to directly facilitate task accomplishment; may give directions or assignments to helpers or assistants;
Ability to handle or use machines, tools or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience, such as computers for data entry, fax machines, copiers, telephones or similar equipment; may service office machines, including adding paper and changing toner;
Ability to perform skilled work involving rules/systems with almost constant problem‑solving;
Ability to read technical instructions, procedures, manuals and charts to solve practical problems; composing routine reports and specialized reports, forms and business letters with proper format; speaking compound sentences using normal grammar and word form;
Ability to perform clerical, manual or technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure; and
Ability to guide others, requiring frequent decisions affecting co‑workers and others who depend on the service or product; works in a somewhat fluid environment with rules and procedures but with many variations from the routine.
