Summary WP Davis Excavation LLC is seeking a highly capable, field-driven Construction Superintendent to lead on-site execution for a long-term heavy civil and environmental restoration project in Whiting, Maine. This is a full-time, on-site leadership role overseeing crews, subcontractors, safety, and environmental compliance. Due to the project’s distance from our home office, this role requires a superintendent who is self-sufficient, decisive, and comfortable solving problems independently in the field. The Superintendent will play a key role in delivering the project safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements. This position is intended for a true builder — someone who understands how the work is constructed because they have personally done it. Key Responsibilities Take full responsibility for day-to-day field operations on the project site Lead from the field with a hands-on approach, not from a desk or trailer Plan, sequence, and execute work with limited day-to-day input from the home office Supervise and coordinate company crews and subcontractors Direct work based on a strong understanding of construction means and methods, not just schedules Enforce job site safety, including daily hazard analyses and toolbox talks Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and environmental permit requirements Coordinate dam restoration and fish passage construction, including excavation, cofferdams, dewatering, and concrete operations Resolve constructability, sequencing, and means-and-methods challenges in real time Train, correct, and guide crews during active work to ensure quality and safety Coordinate schedules, material deliveries, equipment, and subcontractor activities Maintain daily reports, production tracking, and required project documentation Communicate clearly and effectively with project management, inspectors, engineers, subcontractors, and owners This role requires hands-on field leadership grounded in personal experience building earthwork and concrete scopes. Required Qualifications General Superintendent Experience 5+ years of experience as a superintendent or lead field supervisor on heavy civil projects Proven ability to lead crews and subcontractors with limited day-to-day oversight Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and site logistics Earthwork & Concrete Experience Hands-on experience with excavation, grading, and site work operations Experience overseeing heavy civil concrete work, including formwork, reinforcing, placement, and curing Ability to identify constructability issues and direct corrective action in the field Layout & Field Control (Critical) Hands-on layout experience using total station and/or conventional methods Ability to verify control, check line and grade, and troubleshoot layout issues independently Strong ability to read and interpret plans, profiles, sections, and details Certifications & Requirements OSHA 10 certification required (OSHA 30 preferred or willingness to obtain) Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications Experience with dam rehabilitation, fish passage, marine, or environmental restoration projects Familiarity with Maine DEP or environmental compliance requirements CPR / First Aid certification Physical & Work Requirements Full-time, on-site presence in Whiting, ME Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Comfortable working around water, heavy equipment, and active construction sites What We Offer Competitive pay based on experience Per diem provided for this project Retirement plan (IRA) with employer matching contributions Paid time off and holiday pay Company vehicle or vehicle allowance (if applicable) Stable, long-term project with potential for continued employment on future projects Opportunity to lead a high-impact environmental restoration project with real community value Employment Type: Full Time Years Experience: 5 - 10 years Bonus/Commission: Yes
