Marine Electrician - 26595
Join HII as we keep the world's most powerful Navy afloat! Join our Elevator Support Unit (ESU) as a Marine Electrician. This position will support contracted skilled trades work on Weapon Elevators and Aircraft Elevators and their systems on U.S. Navy ships. Travel within and outside of the continental United States may be required. This is a full‑time position located in Chesapeake, VA.
Responsibilities
Perform maintenance and technical support on elevators and elevator doors, including equipment, integrated systems, subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
Analyze and evaluate elevator operations and related performance.
Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical systems and associated equipment to eliminate problems in minimum time. Install, upgrade, and remove electrical systems on elevators and elevator door components ensuring coordinated engineering field change.
Apply comprehensive understanding of production and processes toward completion of assignments.
Interface with customers, manage subcontractors, and provide work direction to others.
Develop and use technical documents, including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports, and task or trip reports.
Schedule, report, and brief customers and senior management. Perform duties outside of specialty when needed to complete installation or work assignments.
Required Qualifications
High school education, trade school, or equivalent, and 4 years of related experience.
Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
Proficient in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of electrical systems and associated equipment.
Proficient in reading drawings and schematics.
Must follow and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential security clearance.
Must obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the maintenance and repair of Navy and/or MSC shipboard cargo and weapons elevators, ordnance handling equipment, and vertical package conveyors.
Current active DoD Confidential security clearance or higher.
Previous experience with PLC controllers.
Ability to read and understand precision measuring tools.
Ability to identify system and component location based on ship structure.
Experience using meters and test equipment.
Technical or professional certifications.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and boxes (minimum 30 lbs). Able to work on and climb ladders, in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. Possible exposure to high heat, humidity, noise, dirty conditions, and use of a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside the continental United States.
