Basic Job Functions We are seeking a creative, process‑minded, effective communicator to join our team. The Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with providing technical support for maintenance and operations, designing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance production, designing and troubleshooting mechanical components and systems, performing mechanical analysis on various systems, designing and troubleshooting hydraulic and pneumatic systems, writing mechanical specifications for projects, creating and maintaining mechanical documentation, managing capital projects, and seeking out and implementing process improvement projects across the production site. Each of these tasks has prerequisites of safe working practices and a mindset of leadership in safety. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

The ability and desire to work safely and provide guidance for an accident‑free workplace

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and two years of relevant work experience, or five years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree

Proficient in modeling, assembly, and detailing with SolidWorks, Inventor, or another 3D CAD software

Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including materials, mechanics, and manufacturing processes

Preferred Qualifications

Experience identifying deficiencies in mechanical processes and developing improvements

Successfully led full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture, and implement)

Experience with machine design using electro‑mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic components

Experience in melting/casting operations, and/or rolling mill operations

Familiarity with Process Automation and Control technologies

Excellent computer skills

Ability to travel up to 10%
