Specialty Order Writer (Beer, Wine, Cheese & Chocolate Buyer / Inventory Replenishment) - Full Time Apply for the Specialty Order Writer role at

Job Responsibilities

Purchase and replenish specialty items through proper buying procedures.

Ensure orders are timely and accurate to maintain inventory turns.

Explain dietary and product differences to customers and staff.

Achieve and exceed assigned margin and sales targets.

Create effective merchandising displays and ensure proper signage and pricing.

Participate in national, regional, and store promotional programs.

Sample department products to customers.

Oversee customer special‑order procedures.

Process invoices, returns, and perform spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets.

Maintain an organized and safe back‑stock area; manage product waste and spoilage.

Arrive on time, appropriately groomed, work all scheduled shifts, and attend required trainings and meetings.

Provide excellent customer service, suggestive selling techniques, and answer phones promptly and courteously.

Maximize sales potential through proper product preparation, storage, rotation, and merchandising.

Follow and ensure compliance with Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices.

Keep the work and shopping environment clean and sanitary; maintain equipment according to WFM standards.

Perform opening, mid‑day, and closing duties, ensuring accurate signs and pricing.

Report safety hazards and violations immediately.

Perform additional duties as assigned by store, regional, or national leadership.

Job Skills

Extensive specialty knowledge: production, distribution, seasonal availability, trends.

Willingness to learn about nutritional information and related topics.

Knowledge of specialty merchandising expectations.

Desire to grow with the specialty team.

Ability to educate team and convey enthusiasm.

Strong basic math skills.

Computer proficiency: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, ordering systems.

Excellent communication and teamwork.

Clear communication with team members, customers, and vendors.

Follow directions; effective time‑management and organizational skills.

Strong work ethic; thrive in a fast‑paced environment with urgency.

Compliance with WFM quality goals.

Experience & Physical Requirements

12+ months retail experience.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

8‑hour workday: standing/walking 6‑8 hours.

Fine manipulation, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, squatting, reaching.

Exposure to FDA‑approved cleaning chemicals and temperature extremes ( 90°F).

Ability to work a flexible schedule, nights, weekends, holidays as needed.

Use of tools and equipment (box cutters, electric pallet jacks, heavy machinery).

Where applicable: TIPS course completion and age 18+ required to serve alcohol.

The wage range for this position is US$15.50–$29.20 hourly, commensurate with experience.
