Position Summary
The Marketing and Events Coordinator is responsible for promoting the City’s programs, services, events, and initiatives through strategic marketing, communications, and event coordination. This position supports community engagement, economic development, tourism, and civic pride by managing marketing efforts, organizing public events, and serving as a liaison between the City, local businesses, residents, and partner organizations.
The ideal candidate is creative, organized, community-oriented, and experienced in marketing, event planning, and public communication within a collaborative, service-driven environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and execute City-sponsored events such as festivals, concerts, public meetings, holiday celebrations, downtown events, and community outreach activities
Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote City programs, services, events, and initiatives
Create content for print, digital, and social media platforms, including flyers, newsletters, press releases, email campaigns, and website updates
Manage and maintain the City’s social media accounts, ensuring consistent messaging and branding
Coordinate with City departments, local businesses, civic groups, and vendors to support marketing and event goals
Serve as a point of contact for event logistics, including permits, vendor coordination, sponsorships, equipment, and on-site support
Manage and schedule events at Market Square (Reidsville’s premier outdoor venue located downtown) by private parties
Supervise maintenance of the Market Square venue with an emphasis on safety and cleanliness, including supervision of part-time event staff, consultants, interns, and volunteers as appropriate
Assist with tourism, downtown development, and business promotion initiatives
Track event attendance, marketing reach, and engagement metrics; prepare reports and recommendations
Ensure all marketing materials and events align with City policies, branding standards, and public communication requirements
Work closely with local media to ensure maximum coverage for events and city updates
Represent the City professionally at meetings, events, and community functions
Perform related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of marketing principles, branding, and public relations
Experience with event planning and logistics
Proficiency with social media platforms, basic graphic design tools, and content management systems
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends for events
Should be an energetic, imaginative self-starter with a high degree of patience and diplomacy
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, event management, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge of working with software such as Canva, Adobe, and Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
One to three years of experience in marketing, communications, event coordination, or related work
Experience working in local government, tourism, or economic development
Experience with community events, sponsorship coordination, or downtown programming
Familiarity with public-sector communication practices
