Barge Chaser
Tidewater Barge Lines is looking for a Barge Chaser to join our team based out of our Pasco, WA terminal. In this role, you act as the primary representative of the Company during barge loading and unloading operations, ensuring safe and efficient handling of products while maintaining strong, professional relationships with our customers. This position will also perform machinery and hull maintenance on Tidewater's fleet of barges. Additional responsibilities include: Communication skills to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with customers, resolve problems, and interact with personnel at all levels of the organization. Performs diagnosis of vessel hull and structural conditions and repairs, including small salvage needs, vessel dewatering, and hull patching while in service. Assists with diagnoses and repairs of mechanical problems, while performing general maintenance and repair of equipment and systems on tugs and barges as assigned. The Benefits & Pay: Position wages are consistent with the United Steel Workers (USW) union contract and are based on years of employment with the Company. Starting wage for entry-level experience is $33.94 per hour with an increase to $46.40 per hour after one year of employment with the company. Or starting wage is $45.05 per hour with an increase to $48.29 per hour after one year of employment with the Company depending on experience and qualifications. The Catch: A successful candidate will be able to work a varied schedule, including overtime, based on the movement of our barges along the Columbia - Snake River System, including on-call availability for nights, weekends, and holidays. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Vocational training in a relevant field, such as mechanical, welding, ship fitting, or boiler making is preferred. Five years' work experience on tugs and barges, in a shipyard environment, or in a mechanical or repair capacity is required. Possess a strong working knowledge of mechanics and a basic understanding of electrical components and systems. Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Work Identification Credential (TWIC) from the Department of Homeland Security. Ability to obtain a Shipyard Competent Person certificate. Ability to work in confined spaces and perform minor salvage functions. Ability to understand and abide by all Company rules, policies, procedures and safety rules. Ability to travel to other company operations outside of the Pasco terminal to conduct essential functions of the position. Ability to operate a forklift. Ability to wear steel-toed boots, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, hard hat, fall protection harness, personal floatation device, welding helmet, welding leathers, coveralls and overalls, and leather gloves. Must be able to be fitted for respirators and to wear them as required. Must possess a current, valid drivers' license and an insurable driving record to operate company-owned vehicles.
