Program Overview RIVA Solutions supports the National Science Foundation’s Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA) by delivering high-quality writing, editing, and content development services that communicate complex scientific topics to diverse audiences. This work spans speeches, congressional testimony, web content, printed publications, digital campaigns, scripts, and multi-channel communication products that advance NSF’s mission and scientific impact.
RIVA’s support ensures that OLPA maintains clear, accurate, accessible, and compelling messaging aligned with federal communication standards, including the Plain Writing Act and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
Position Overview RIVA Solutions is seeking a UX Designer to support the design and optimization of digital experiences for OLPA web platforms and digital communication products. This role focuses on ensuring that user experiences are intuitive, accessible, and aligned with both user needs and federal usability standards.
The UX Designer works closely with content strategists, writers, graphic designers, and developers to translate complex information into clear, user-centered digital experiences for diverse audiences, including policymakers, researchers, media, and the public.
Core Responsibilities
Design user-centered experiences for websites, digital publications, and online tools
Conduct user research, usability testing, and stakeholder interviews to inform design decisions
Develop user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and interaction flows
Translate content and communication goals into intuitive navigation structures and layouts
Collaborate with content, design, and development teams to implement UX best practices
Ensure all designs comply with Section 508 accessibility standards and usability guidelines
Support iterative design improvements based on user feedback and analytics
Document UX standards, patterns, and recommendations for consistency across platforms
Provide UX guidance for new features, content updates, and digital initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Professional experience designing UX for websites or digital platforms
Experience producing wireframes, prototypes, and user flows
Familiarity with usability testing and user research methodologies
Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting federal agencies or public-sector digital platforms
Experience working with content-heavy or information-rich websites
Familiarity with tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, or similar
Experience collaborating with developers in implementation phases
Salary Range Up to $120,000 per year, based on experience
