Job Description
Jackie Cooper Nissan is looking for a parts counterperson to help with assisting customers (retail & technicians) in identifying, selling, and ordering correct parts using catalogs/software, managing inventory (stocking, tracking, organizing), processing sales/payments, and providing product/technical advice, requiring strong customer service, organizational skills, and knowledge of automotive/machinery parts to minimize downtime and ensure satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Interaction:
Greet customers, understand their needs (vehicle issues, descriptions), provide quotes, offer solutions, and resolve complaints.
Parts Identification & Sales:
Look up stock numbers, read catalogs/screens, advise on compatible parts, upsell related items, and process sales/payments.
Inventory Management:
Pull/fill orders, tag parts, stock shelves, monitor stock levels, order out-of-stock items, and manage returns/defects.
Order Fulfillment:
Handle phone orders, track shipments, notify customers/shops of arrivals, and expedite emergency orders.
Department Maintenance:
Keep the counter, showroom, and stockroom clean, organized, and well-displayed.
Essential Skills & Knowledge
Product Knowledge:
Strong understanding of automotive or machinery parts.
Technical Aptitude:
Ability to use inventory software, read manuals/catalogs.
Customer Service:
Friendly, professional, active listening, clear communication.
Organization:
Attention to detail for inventory, transactions, and order tracking.
Problem-Solving:
Recommending alternatives when parts are unavailable.
Work Environment
Fast-paced, can be stressful with high call/customer volume.
May involve exposure to moving parts, chemicals, or other hazardous materials.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
At least one year of relevant experience in an automotive parts department or retail store.
Excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
Professional appearance and work ethic.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
