Position Title
Grants Writer, full‑time, Administrator IV salary level, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Central Connecticut State University.
About the Office
The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment collaborates across the university to improve institutional effectiveness, secure funding for priority projects, contribute to accreditation, strategic planning, assessment of student learning, and federal/state reporting.
Position Overview
Responsible for securing and managing grant funding in support of institution‑wide priorities by conducting needs analysis, grant research, proposal development, grant applications, and grant reporting in partnership with university administration, faculty, and community stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct needs analysis, research, proposal development, application submission, and reporting for grant funding.
Coordinate with faculty, staff, and subject‑matter experts to identify grant opportunities aligned with institutional priorities.
Write grant applications and reports in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to secure aligned funding.
Assist in budget planning and coordinate grants to build a cohesive, sustainable funding network and ensure compliance with funding guidelines.
Develop strategies for revision and re‑submission of failed applications to other grant‑funding agencies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Four (4) years professional experience in grant writing with a strong portfolio of five‑ and six‑figure proposals supporting higher education and/or nonprofits.
Documented ability to interact with senior‑level executives and establish partnerships within the community, regional businesses, or institutions of higher education.
Excellent written and oral communication; detail oriented; project‑management skills; ability to work under tight deadlines and difficult time constraints.
Experience interpreting and responding to NOFOs (Notices of Funding Opportunity) from federal agencies (e.g., NIH, NSF, Department of Education) and the private sector.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Six (6) years experience securing grants from foundation, state, and federal agencies.
Demonstrated track record of success in obtaining grants.
Resilience and creativity in approaching complex problems.
Strong information‑technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
Interpersonal skills including the ability to relate and work collegially, constructively, and effectively with a variety of stakeholders, and to work independently.

Compensation and Benefits
Administrator IV salary level – starting salary $81,784.
